Bowie Maryland BJJ/MMA Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Class Standards, Etiquette

• Be on time for class. If you come in late, let the instructor know and join the class without disrupting your teammates.
• Safety and technique are a priority.
• Show respect to higher ranked students and those senior in age.
• Be attentive when your coach is speaking.
• Self-control and good sportsmanship are a must at all times.
• Students are not to teach - you are expected to work with your partner so that a mutual benefit of training is achieved.
• Tap - If at anytime you are in danger of being injured through an applied technique or approach another group's training space, tap your partner firmly, say "STOP!" or "TAP!" This will cause your partner to stop.
• Speed Kills - Applying submissions, especially as a beginner, should be applied slowly and with control.

Personal Hygiene/Cleanliness

• Finger and toenails must be trimmed short and kept clean.
• Bathe before class. Under-arm deodorant is a must.
• Long hair should be pulled back/secured.
• Brush your Teeth/use Mouthwash!
• Gi - Your gi or no-gi geal is to be washed prior to every use. If it stinks, stay off the mat.
• Earrings and all other jewelry are not permitted. Wedding bands may be worn as long as they are covered with athletic tape.
• Skin - Do not roll with open wounds, rashes etc on yourself or your training partner.
• Mouthguards are optional but recommended.
